Grga Peroš, baritone

Since December 2016, Croatian baritone Grga Peroš has been a member of the ensemble at the Stadttheater Gießen and under the musical direction of Michael Hofstetter he performed in Mozart’s operas as Cosı fan tutte – GUGLIELMO, also DON GIOVANNI (title role) and Le nozze di Figaro – CONTE ALMAVIVA. He expanded his repertoire in Kalmans A fall maneuver – LÖRENTHY and Verdi’s La forza del destino – FRA MELITONE.

In Richard Strauss’ Ariadne on Naxos he sang HARLEQUIN in Gießen and the Staatstheater Meiningen (conductor Philippe Bach) and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (conductors Axel Kober and Lukas Beikircher). Peroš made his debut at the Oper Halle in 2019 as CAESAR in Georg Friedrich Händel’s Julius Caesar in Egypt for the opening of the Halle Handel Festival, conducted by Michael Hofstetter and directed by Peter Konwitschny.

In the season 2019/20 in Gießen he will be, among other roles, in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia as FIGARO and in Humperdink’s Hänsel and Gretel as PETER.

In the summer of 2015, Peros was cast as CONTE ALMAVIVA in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro for the 50th anniversary of the Junge Oper Schloss Weikersheim under the musical direction of Bruno Weil. In the 2015/16 season he was engaged as a member of the ensemble at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt for the productions of Benjamin Britten’s Midsummer night’s dream – STARVELING under Alexander Soddy and Bizet’s Carmen – DANCAÏRO under Lorenzo Viotti. In the following season he was again active in Klagenfurt as a guest in Strauss’ Salome – 1ST SOLDIER under Alexander Soddy.

Already in preschool age, Grga Peroš began an intensive musical education, which he continued at the Music High School Elly Bašić in Zagreb. From 2002 he studied philosophy and information science at the University of Zagreb, until he decided in 2011 to study singing at the Art University Graz with Prof. Ulf Bästlein. In 2012 and 2013 he was awarded scholarships from the City of Graz and the Society of Friends of the KUG. In 2015, he completed his bachelor’s degree and in 2018 his master’s degree in Graz.
