José Andrés Fernandez, clarinet

Young clarinet virtuoso José Andrés performs as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. He has won several international competitions and scholarships and regularly collaborates with renowned European musicians and ensembles.

He has won first prizes in numerous national and international competitions such as Mozart for soloists Competition (Málaga 2006, 1st Prize); Concours National d’Exécution Musicale, (Riddes 2013, 1st Prize); Concurso de jovenes intérpretes Málaga Crea 2013 (Málaga 2013, 1st Prize), Málaga; 8th Michal Spisak Clarinet Competition (Katowice 2014, 1st Prize), where also received the special award of the jury; II Concurso de jovenes talentos musicales andaluces (Málaga 2015, 1st  Prize), and special audience award; International Soloists Competition Intermusica, (Birkfeld 2015, 1st Prize). Also he has been awarded with scholarships from renowned organisations such as the Bog Stiftung, August-Pickhard Stiftung and Schenk-Stiftung.

Very interested in chamber music in all its formations, he performs concerts with great musicians such as Felix Renggli, Heinz Holliger, Anton Kernjak, Jürg Dähler, Daniel Haefliger, among others. In 2014 , he established with Diana Muela Mora flutist and pianist Ioana Mandrescu the Quivir Ensemble – specialized in works of the twentieth and twenty-first century, participating in several festivals such as the Forum Internacional de Alto Perfeccionamiento musical del Sur de Europa (FIAPMSE), Festival de música de cámara de Huéscar and Ciclo de música de cámara de Málaga.

He has a wide orchestral experience, collaborating with Sinfonieorchester Basel, Philarmonic Orchestra of the Animato Fundation, Orchestra L’anima giusta, Zahir Ensemble, Neues Orchester Basel and Chamber Academy Basel. He has been performing under conductors as Pedro Halffter, Lorenzo Ramos, Josep Vicent, Manuel Hernández Silva, Salvador Mas, Douglas Bostock and Howard Griffiths, among others.

As a soloist, José Andrés Fernández Camacho has performed with the L´Hemu Orchestra, Kammerorchester Basel, Zabzre Philharmonic Orchestra, Argovia Philarmonic Orchestra, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada and Orquesta de Córdoba.

Currently he plays as principal clarinet with the Sinfonieorchester Basel and is a Henri Selmer artist.

José Andrés studied with Javier Trigos in the C.S.M. Manuel Castillo in Sevilla (Spain) François Benda in the Hochschule für Musik Basel (Switzerland). He developed his formation at the Academy of Orchestral Studies from the Barenboim-Said Foundation with Matthias Glander and Ildefonso Moreno.
